Rep. Norma Torres, D-Pomona, is among a group of Congressional Hispanic Caucus members who said Republicans kicked them out of a meeting with the acting head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement Thursday, Feb. 16.
They had hoped to learn more about the recent arrests of almost 700 immigrants nationwide.
Torres made it inside the meeting room before being told to leave by Rep. Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., who chairs the House judiciary committee.
A spokeswoman for House Speaker Paul Ryan said the small bipartisan meeting was “limited to members with jurisdictional interests in immigration enforcement,” at the request of the Department of Homeland Security.
