Who is California Attorney General Xavier Becerra protecting at the state utilities commission?
Becerra declined to comment on the criminal probe into possible improper dealings between the California Public Utilities Commission and the utility companies it’s entrusted to oversee.
“I urge you to continue to look at the public record,” he said. “You’re not going to get me to comment on an investigation.”
Becerra’s predecessor, Kamala Harris, launched the probe of the state utilities commission in September 2014 after emails surfaced between utility executives and regulators routinely discussed public business in private.
She didn’t have any trouble talking about the investigation publicly. Which raises the question why is Becerra so quiet all of the sudden? Is he protecting some of his political crony friends in Sacramento?
If history provides any clue, the answer to that last question is probably yes.
