Tijuana beat’s San Diego’s out of control real estate prices

Panamanian-born developer Moises Abadi dreamed up the $170 million project, which is walking distance from one of the world’s busiest borders, in the late 1990s.

The recession nearly killed the NewCity condo development but it now has strong sales and the fourth tower in the development will be completed next month. Meanwhile, construction has begun on a fifth tower and a sprawling medical center has been included in the master plan.

Today, roughly 1,000 people live in the nearly 8-acre development and its four towers — with more than 20 stories and among the tallest in the Mexican city — are the first thing millions of people see as they leave the United States. Its Diamond Tower, 27 stories at 334 feet, is the tallest building in Tijuana.
