The incompetence demonstrated by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department continues to astound.
In yet another chapter in the saga, a Sheriff’s Department property clerk has resigned amid a criminal investigation into missing evidence according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.
The clerk, a nearly 10-year employee named Angela Messig, acknowledged the property room she oversaw in Santee was a mess but denied stealing any evidence.
The property-theft case is the second criminal investigation of sheriff’s staff to come to light in as many weeks. It follows the resignation of an assistant sheriff accused of sexual misconduct.
By every account, the property room at the sheriff’s substation in Santee was a mess. Bags of evidence cluttered the shelves and so much material was stored haphazardly that it was nearly impossible to track.
